IMU Scholarships and Bursaries

IMU offer three types of scholarships, exclusively available to Malaysian students pursuing local track programmes. These scholarships are designed to recognise and reward academic excellence and perseverance.

Awarded to students who excel academically, actively participate in extracurricular activities, and demonstrate strong leadership qualities.

Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)

National Higher Education Fund or Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) is a government-initiative aims to provide education loan to students pursuing their studies at local higher education institution. To apply for the loan, applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria set by PTPTN. For more information on the application process and requirements, please visit the IMU Website or refer to IMU-PTPTN Online Application Process & Guidelines

Students who are currently under PTPTN education loan are encouraged to refer to the following information for important guidance. This will help ensure you stay informed about policies, and procedures related to your loan and academic progress.

Disbursement of Loan

PTPTN will disburse the first amount of loan within 20 days from the date of loan agreement submission. For more information on the subsequent disbursement loan, please click on the following link for further reference.

Loan Repayment

Repayment of loan can be made 12 months after completion of studies without waiting for the Repayment Notice. Interest begins 12 months after completion of studies.

Repayment Deferment

Repayment Deferment can be considered for borrowers who meet the below eligibility:

  • Currently unemployed; or
  • Continue studies abroad on a full-time basis; or
  • Pursue twinning program, such as a 2+1 or 2+2 program or similar, which requires student to continue the studies abroad on a full-time basis to complete the education.

Please note that applications for repayment deferment cannot be made for existing studies that have been extended due to academic failure or the deliberate postponement of studies.

In addition, repayment deferment applications are not permitted if borrowers continue their studies at the same or a lower level than the programme previously financed by a PTPTN loan.

The deferment application must be submitted online through myPTPTN. Approval for deferment is determined by PTPTN management and the duration of the deferment period is also decided by PTPTN.

Exemption of Repayment

Starting from 1 January 2026 onwards, PTPTN repayment exemption applies only to graduates from public universities who are from B40 and M40 households and does not include graduates from private universities.

Therefore, the exemption is no longer applicable to IMU University graduates graduating from the year 2026 onwards.

Cancellation of Loan

For students who plan to cancel their PTPTN loan received, due to the following reasons, you are required to complete the Borang Pembatalan Pinjaman Pendidikan PTPTN and submit it to the nearest PTPTN branch.

  • Offered with another scholarship.
  • Decided to withdraw from the study programme.
  • To terminate the first PTPTN loan received and to re-apply for new loan.

Please note that any study loan payments received must be repaid within 12 months after the completion of your studies. If you decide to further your studies at another institution or at the same level, you are required to settle your previous PTPTN loan before reapplying for a new one.

Change of Undergraduate Programme Study

Students must submit an appeal for a programme plan change via the myPTPTN portal. This appeal process applies to active students who intend to change their programme track, particularly those transitioning from the Partner School track to the Local track for the Medicine and Dentistry programmes only.

Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA)

JPA provides sponsorship opportunities to SPM leavers to pursue Foundation and Undergraduate studies in IMU University. For more detailed information on the scholarship eligibility and application process, please visit the JPA section on IMU Website.

Students who are currently part of the JPA sponsorship programme are encouraged to refer to the following information for important guidance. This will help ensure you stay informed about policies and procedures related to your sponsorship and academic progress.

Academic Reporting

Examination Result Reporting

IMU Financial Aid Unit (FAU) will do the examination result reporting to JPA twice a year, hence, students do not have to submit examination result to JPA.

Academic Programme Changes
  • Students who would like to change the academic programme due to any academic reason need to obtain approval from JPA before students can proceed to do so.
  • Changing the academic programme without approval from JPA could breach the JPA sponsorship agreement and may lead students to be imposed with certain penalty and sponsorship termination.
  • Below are the documents that students need to prepare for academic programme changes process:
    • Fill in Borang Permohonan Tukar Kursus/Institusi Pengajian/Cawangan. The form can be downloaded from JPA official website.
    • Provide supporting documents as per listed in Borang Permohonan Tukar Kursus / Institusi Pengajian / Cawangan.
  • Students need to submit the documents to FAU for final checking before students can submit to JPA.
  • Upon approval from FAU, students may submit the documents to JPA via email at Latihan Sebelum Perkhidmatan Dalam Negara: lspdn@jpa.gov.my.
Underperforming Academic Reporting
  • Students who fail the final examination and still can progress to the next semester after successfully passing the resit paper examination – are not required to do this reporting.
  • Students who fail in final examination and must repeat the failed semester – are required to submit this reporting to JPA. Without this reporting, students will not receive living allowance during the repeat semester.
  • Below are the documents that students need to prepare for underperforming academic reporting:
    • Fill in Borang Tunjuk Sebab Kemerosotan Akademik. The form can be downloaded from JPA official website.
    • Provide final examination result slip from Semester 1 until latest.
  • Students need to submit the documents to FAU for final checking before students can submit to JPA.
  • Upon approval from FAU, students may submit the documents to JPA via email at Latihan Sebelum Perkhidmatan Dalam Negara: lspdn@jpa.gov.my.
Deferment Application
  • Students who would like to take deferment need to submit a report to JPA. This reporting is important for JPA to trace students’ whereabout and plan the living allowance disbursement schedule.
  • Below are the documents that students need to prepare for deferment application process:
    • Fill in Borang Penangguhan Penajaan. The form can be downloaded from JPA official website.
    • Provide supporting documents as per listed in Borang Penangguhan Penajaan.
  • Students need to submit the documents to FAU for final checking before students can submit to JPA.
  • Upon approval from FAU, students may submit the documents to JPA via email at Latihan Sebelum Perkhidmatan Dalam Negara: lspdn@jpa.gov.my.
Sponsorship Extension Appeal
  • Students who previously had a repeat semester and deferment need to submit sponsorship extension appeal to JPA.
  • This appeal is required for JPA to cover the additional semester that exceeds the original timeline according to the term stipulated in the sponsorship agreement.
  • Without JPA’s approval for the sponsorship extension appeal, students will be required to pay the tuition fee for the additional semester themselves.
  • Below are the documents that students need to prepare for sponsorship extension appeal process:
    • Fill in Borang Permohonan Pelanjutan Penajaan. The form can be downloaded from JPA official website.
    • Provide supporting documents as per listed in Borang Permohonan Pelanjutan Penajaan.
  • Students need to submit the documents to FAU for final checking before students can submit to JPA.
  • Upon approval from FAU, students may submit the documents to JPA via email at Latihan Sebelum Perkhidmatan Dalam Negara: lspdn@jpa.gov.my.

Claim

JPA-sponsored students are eligible to claim for fees and allowances related to academic expenses. The eligibility, procedure and documents required are according to the claim categorised as below:

Category 1 (applicable only to Foundation students)

  • For category 1 claims; IMU Processing / Application Fee, English Examination Fee, and Admissions Test (BMAT/ISAT) Fees, these are only applicable to Foundation Students.
  • Please refer to the table below for specific details on eligibility, procedure, and required documents for Category 1 claims.
  • Please note that any documents submitted with unclear information will be strictly rejected.

Category 2 (applicable only to Undergraduate students)

For category 2 claims; Clinical Attachment and Posting Living Allowance, these are only applicable to Undergraduate Students.

Eligibility
  • Students who receive allowance from hospital / clinic / other organisations are not eligible to claim for living allowance from JPA.
  • Claims are eligible for students who complete clinical attachment / posting in Malaysia.
  • Claims are eligible for students who complete clinical attachment / posting in overseas (if it is compulsory according to IMU and programme curriculum for students to do clinical attachment / posting in overseas).
Claim Guidelines
  • Living allowance is only paid for working days (weekends and public holidays are not counted).
  • The maximum period of attachment that can be paid by JPA is 90 days (weekends and public holidays are not counted).
  • Claims are only eligible for compulsory attachment training according to IMU and programme curriculum.
Submission Procedure
  • For students in Bukit Jalil Campus, please submit all required documents to FAU within 5 days after completing the clinical attachment / posting. Late submissions may be rejected by JPA.
  • For students in Clinical Campus, please submit all required documents to Student Services Department in Clinical Campus Seremban within 2 days after completing the clinical attachment / posting.
  • Late submissions may be rejected by JPA.

Category 3 (applicable only to Undergraduate students)

Claims for Thesis is only applicable to Undergraduate students.

Eligibility
  • The thesis project must be an individual project with at least 6 credit hours.
  • Students can apply for this claim once during the entire study period, as long as students are still under the JPA sponsorship contract.
  • Students under sponsorship extension are not eligible for this claim.
Submission Procedure
  • For students in Bukit Jalil Campus; submit all required documents to FAU within 5 days after thesis approval date.
  • For students in Clinical Campus; submit all required documents to the Student Services Department in Clinical Campus Seremban within 2 days after thesis approval.
  • Late submissions may be rejected by JPA.

    3. Submit the documents to FAU for final checking before submitting to MARA.

IMU Welfare Fund

Mental Health Support

Covid-19 has negatively impacted students’ mental health. Records show that for the past 2 years, there has been a significant increase in the number of students seeking for counselling services and psychiatric treatment. Students are struggling in this unprecedented situation which requires additional support to overcome this challenge. IMU is aiding of RM1,800 per annum (reimbursement basis) following below criteria:
